Start to Finish Projects
We have been organizing the Annual International A World Beyond Capitalism conference for over five years. At a few of our conferences as well as in and out of conferences the same concern is repeated over and over by activists all over the world: “It is wonderful talking about social justice… but I always have a hard time getting the help I need to actually DO something and START these ideas after I go home!” This is especially heard among marginalized people of limited financial resources who have difficulty networking within their community for numerous reasons. This is one of many reasons why ANFJ is organized as a Mobile Event and an Intentional Community: So that we can do whatever we have to do and go wherever we have to go to provide Start-to-Finish solutions to help those people having trouble finding community support to make their social justice dreams come true. ANFJ Start-to-Finish Projects are here to give the Tools, the Multicultural Collaboration and the Supportive Community to help you get your ideas up and running before you leave the conference. THE FIRST STEP The first step is to contact us in order to register. Getting a clear picture of your dream and how we can help you and listening to your thoughts will allow us to determine the range of services we can provide that speak to your short term needs with long-term goals in mind. CONCEPTION After you arrive at the conference, we will take time to find out the solutions that you desire and listen to your ideas. We will offer thoughtful solutions based upon careful review of your social justice group or project objectives. Multicultural Constructive Criticism and Positive Feedback Multicultural Constructive Criticism and Positive Feedback is an important step in the projects that we assist with. Multicultural Constructive Criticism and positive feedback has a goal of improving some area of another’s person’s life or work and suggesting methods and solutions that may help that person or their project in a manner that bridges differences of language, race, class, gender, age, disability, and sexual orientation. The trouble with constructive criticism is that not all people are receptive to it. This is one of the reasons why the the AWBC/ANFJ is an event being organized as a 7 month event in 2012. It is our hope that we can get to know each other more than the traditional 3-7 day conference permits. Otherwise, multicultural constructive criticism may cause the recipient's self-esteem to shrink under criticism rather than benefit. This would destroy the intent of multicultural constructive criticism as we seek to strengthen and support one another social justice dreams. Multicultural Collaboration Together, we will then plan and agree on a time frame for what we can do for your social justice group or project. We will then ask you to submit the necessary written or unwritten content based upon your social justice group or project outline. This content can include photographs, digital files, illustrations, text, etc. Based upon our outline and the solutions we have come up with during the creative process, we will ask you to review our solutions, make any changes or additions you feel necessary, and ask for your permission to work with you to start work on your dream: the social justice group or project idea that you request help in creating. CREATIVE We will have a number of creative designers to help develop a series of layouts for your social justice group or project working with all provided materials. You will be presented with previews and mockup graphic examples of your social justice group or projects' possible layout and look. Once the desired changes are made and the look and layout are approved, we again ask for your permission to for production begins. PRODUCTION This process includes input of all textual information, and agreed upon materials determined during the conception process and included within the social justice group or project outline. If it is a web social justice group or project, design production, coding and interfacing occur here. If it is a print, film, music, spoken word or other type of social justice group or project, the actual design production begins. We contact volunteers to help accomplish your project. COMPLETION It is our greatest desire to have the foundation of the project completed before you leave the conference. We will also help you find the networks of people in your home area who can help you after the work is finished, printed or posted to the web. We want to be sure that the creative solutions that we provided to you will help your social justice group or project strengthen and grow. We wish to build long-term relationships that help create a better world. "Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained." ~Helen Keller “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.
